This ring was carved during a hike to a viewpoint overlooking the Franz Josef Glacier in New Zealand. Its rough, fractured surface mimics the icy shards of the glacier’s face, set against the solid weight of the ice beneath. The glacier is rapidly retreating, which made the experience feel particularly significant. I wanted to capture a small piece of its natural beauty in this ring — a reminder of the landscape as it is now, and of the impact we have on the natural world around us.
This piece is hollowed out so that it remains chucky yet light and comfortable to wear.
